Concreting & Cementing
Concreting & Cementing
This area forms the entrance to a bungalow’s front door and was prone to frequent flooding due to poor drainage. To resolve the issue, drainage channels were professionally installed to redirect surface water and prevent future pooling.
We broke out a section of existing concrete and set the drainage channels in position. They are bedded in cement so that they match the proposed finished levels. Once this is done, it is ready for the concrete to be laid and finished to the surface of the channel.
Drainage channels are supplied by Jewsons
We first finish the cement on the front side and provide a keyed surface on the back side to enhance bonding of the new cement. On the right side the cement is also finished. There is no real soak away drain here but there is a hole beneath the channel to help water soak away into the front garden. It is not super efficient but it will slowly disperse water after a heavy down pour. It was done to this way to keep the job within a budget.
We are using a very good additive called SBR to ensure a good bond for concreting and cementing. PVA can also be used for this but SBR is much better and speeds up setting times.
PVA slows the drying time of cement but the end result is comparable.
Here we have laid the edges in first and use them as a guide to fill in the middle.
With the middle now concreted in, this job is now finished. The channel drains into the front garden.
Concrete Path
On this job we concreted a new path to the house. The picture shows freshly laid concrete, the surface has been tamped and edged to give better grip under foot and to improve its look.
Another happy customer.
