Stair Refurbishment to Match Surrounding Décor
We refurbished this old, dark wooden staircase to give it a fresh, modern, and stylish look that complements the surrounding décor.

With such a dark colour it looked out of place with the rest of the room, so we painstakingly rubbed down the whole staircase to prepare it for repainting. The spindles were the most difficult because of their shape.
The underside also had to be prepared, as it is visible from the kitchen. Once cleaned, we applied three coats of oil-based paint in the colour selected by the customer.

We did not need to rub down or paint the tops of the stairs since they were being faced over. We sourced quality solid oak planks from Blumsom Timber, around 20mm thick with a beautiful grainy finish.

These oak planks were used to face over the tops of the steps, giving a clean, attractive finish.

Fixing was done from the underside, ensuring sufficient support front and back to prevent cupping. Each step was varnished with three coats, sanding between layers for a perfect finish.

Here is the finished result: a beautiful woodgrain hard finish that now fits seamlessly with its surroundings.
